​​​​Passport to Success

Passport to Success is a program we have run for the last few years to help pupils continue their learning over the summer.  It is essentially, pupil's summer homework.  Our pupils have made fantastic progress this year and we want to help them maintain this high standard.     

Each pupil at the Academy receives a Passport to Success at the end of the year and it is a booklet that features a range of activities to complete weekly across the summer holiday to keep pupils in the swing of using English and Maths.  Passports to Success have been given out by your child's English and Maths teachers and posted home if pupils were absent. 

As I'm sure you are aware, it is crucial pupils keep these key literacy and numeracy skills engaged throughout the summer and it is for this reason that Passports to Success are compulsory. If not completed, pupils will still have to complete the work.  ​

We also give a Passport to Success to all our new pupils coming up from Y6 so they are ready for Academy life in Y7. To access this click the Show My Homework link below and where it says 'Select a year' please choose year 6 or download the booklet in the table below.

-Pupils will need to read for an hour each week and fill in the Reading Journal which needs to be signed by a parent/carer.

-There are two spelling lists that pupils need to try and learn.  The Basics they need to know by September – there is also a Challenge list which it would be great for pupils to try and learn.

- Lexia is an online literacy program and pupils will need to log in (they should already know their log in details) and complete 6 literacy challenges (2 per week)

-Pupils need to log on to “MyMaths” and complete five tasks.  If they achieved above 100 in their Maths SATS, they should complete the extra challenge tasks too.    ​

Log on to www.mymaths.co.uk and pupils have their user id and passwords in the inside of their booklet.  All booklets were given out on Y6 Parents Evening and those that weren’t have been posted out.

​Y7 into Y8 Literacy

Passport to Success Y8 into Y9 Literacy

Your booklet will include an anthology of poems.  You need to read the poems, annotate them using the SMILE sheet to help you. You can also do some research into the poem, if you struggle to understand it.  Answer the questions on the SMILE sheet for each poem OR Write your own, original response to the following question: How does the speaker in the poem present their thoughts and feelings? OR Write a poem on a similar topic or in a similar style of each poem.​​

Y10 into Y11 Literacy

- Pupils have been provided a copy of the GCSE poetry anthology which contains a number of poems they have studied this year. Pupils need to annotate two poems per week and complete the summary analysis sheet attached to each text.​
