Passport to Success

Passport to Success is a program we started last year to help deal with the "summer holiday drop".  There is quite a lot of evidence to show that pupil's Literacy and Numeracy ability drops during the summer holiday due, in part, to not being practised enough.

Each pupil at the Academy receives a Passport to Success at the end of the year and it is a booklet that features a range of activities to complete weekly across the summer holiday to keep pupils in the swing of using English and Maths.

As I'm sure you are aware, it is crucial pupils keep these key literacy and numeracy skills engaged throughout the summer and it is for this reason that Passports to Success are compulsory. If not completed, pupils will still have to complete the work.

We also give a Passport to Success to all our new pupils coming up from Y6 so they are ready for Academy life in Y7.  Details are below:

Your booklet will include an anthology of poems.  You need to read the poems, annotate them using the SMILE sheet to help you. You can also do some research into the poem, if you struggle to understand it.  Answer the questions on the SMILE sheet for each poem OR Write your own, original response to the following question: How does the speaker in the poem present their thoughts and feelings? OR Write a poem on a similar topic or in a similar style of each poem.
