Micro:Bits unleashed on Year 8
Castleford Academy's Computing Department have started coding Micro:Bits in lessons. The major BBC project gave a personal coding device free to every child in year 7 late last year. Due to this we have started coding with our current year 8.
The device has ignited a passion for coding and we have seen both boys and girls pushing their skills and creativity to the max to develop the next big program! Coding work has produced a range of progress displays (smile, frown, and indifferent faces) to games such as Pong and Space Invaders.
At the end of the unit the pupils will be given the opportunity to take the Micro:bits home or donate them back to the school. The potential for these devices is great and is only a script away. Here are a few pupils from Y8 displaying their programs that they developed in the first lesson.
