Y11 students 2017/2018 make outstanding progress at Castleford Academy!

We are delighted to report that Castleford Academy Y11 students 2017/2018 achieved fantastic results this year. The new GCSE exam system, graded 1-9, was rolled out across the majority of subjects, largely assessed by a terminal exam with no coursework element. On average pupils at Castleford Academy achieved almost half a grade higher than expected across all of their subjects. In English, 77% of students achieved grade 4 (Equivalent to a GCSE grade C), 61% grade 5 (The new strong pass standard) and 15% grade 7 (Equivalent to a GCSE grade A). In Maths, 73% of students achieved grade 4, 53% grade 5 and 24% grade 7. An amazing 68% achieved a grade 4 in both English and Maths with 45% achieving a grade 5 in both respectively. Over 70 % of students achieved a grade 4 in the new Science trilogy qualification worth 2 GCSE's. Attainment grades achieved by Yr 11 in all other subjects was well beyond early national averages.

However, these headline figures do not highlight the most important aspect of the results; the progress students make from their starting points.  Based on this measure, the Academy is on track to be amongst the highest performing schools in Yorkshire. The headteacher George Panayiotou beamed, "We are very proud of their achievements. Every year the students' work ethic and determination to succeed increases which has led to such outstanding results. The progress this year made by the students is exceptional. The achievement is even more special as nationally assessment becomes more challenging.  I must also take this opportunity to thank staff for their continued hard work.

The Chair of Governors Bill Clift (MBE) added "We wish all year 11 students every success in the future and thank parents for their support over what has been a very successful year."
