Castleford Academy claim more silverware
Castleford Academy boys and girls rugby teams are continuing to dominate the Yorkshire and National competitions. The Year 11 Boys team have made history by reaching the National final for a 5th consecutive time. No team in the history of the competition has achieved this. They play arch-rivals Brooksbank at Featherstone Rovers, 7pm on Tuesday 25th April.
In the recent Yorkshire Cup finals at Wakefield Wildcats, the Year 7 and 10 Boys Rugby teams lifted the trophies. The Year 7 boys, still unbeaten this year beat Freeston 16-6 with Captain Noah Booth claiming man of the match. The Year 10 boys won a dramatic game 26-22 against Brigshaw (aet). The team have been hit hard with injuries this year, but a depleted team held strong to claim a famous win. Man of the match was Billy Marsh with an unbelievable individual display.
The Year 7 and 9 girls teams also claimed the Yorkshire titles with hard fought wins against strong opposition. The 7s beat Malet Lambert with Sheby Chiunye winning player of the match. The 9s beat local rivals Outwood Grange 46-42 in a thrilling game. Player of the match Olivia Addis was the main difference between the two sides. The Year 10 and 11 Girls put up a strong fight in their finals, but unfortunately fell just short to St John Fishers.
The Year 7 boys B team have also made history this year. They have won Division 2 in Wakefield, completing their season unbeaten and have also made it to the final of the Yorkshire Plate competition. Considering we are the only school in the Country with B teams, it is a fantastic achievement by the boys, showing the strength in depth of the school.
Attentions now turn to the remaining National Cup games, with 7 of our teams left in their respective tournaments.
